Finshing touches-mirrors
After two painstaking years, the 74 is nearly finished..outside anyway. It came with tiny crappy little mirrors off of who-knows-what, so I need some ideas on replacements.
What mirrors have you guys found that you really like? Hopefully something readily available.
Thanks all!

Mirrors
Mirrors; West Coast/Jr West coast style
http://www.rpminnovations.com/truck.htm
Give this site a look. These are almost like the Mazda ones in the 74 brochure (Brad has some Mazda ones on his truck)
or here;
http://www.retracmirrors.com/Product_Line/LD_-_Universal/Univ_Jr_WC_Assembles/univ_jr_wc_assembles.html
These look like they are more practical, but you would have to fabricate your own mount.
For the original look give these a gander
http://rpminnovations.com/auto-car.htm Notice they have a set, where the REPU only came with the drivers side.
I have some Mazda ones from a B2000, but they require an enormous hole in the door skin, they work well.

Thanks!!
Great links, thank you so much!
I went to this site, http://rpminnovations.com/auto-car.htm, which ones would be considered closest to original?
The 'euro' ones are the ones the truck came with, interestingly enough.

I wouldn't...
...get any that require even a partial 'low mount', since the door metal will ultimately get destroyed in that location due to flex. Personally, I like the (ridiculously)small 'spot' type round mirrors... perhaps the (non-stock, I know...) variety that mount up high (?), or some of the more 'modern' 'sport' types.
Unless, of course, the *proper*(towing)style mirrors are happening...
Form vs. Function...(?)
Stock appearance vs. 'Performance' appearance...(?)
It's a personal thing...

Mirrors
The,Universal Chrome Style, #17000 round mirror is the closest to the original OEM round mirror that came only on the drivers side. Anything else was added by the dealer, including the "Towing/Jr. West Coast Style seen on the 74 brochure truck"
I'll try to get a drawing done of the stock mirror so you can see the original dimensions. The 74 trucks at least have nutplates in the drivers door for the mirror.
The ones I have been using for a long time are the dreaded"low mount" kind from the Mazda dealer, aside from have to drill a humungus hole (that's 1/2 IN. dia.in english) for the jacknut(a big moly screw with plastic on the outer end)I haven't had any cracking problems with the door skins. They were for the B2000 I believe and they fold up flat against the truck for more clearance.I have seen other low mount mirrors nearly destroy the door skin though.

I have a cople of holes on the door frame, next to the wing window. Does anyone know if these holes are for the 'stock' mirrors?

"Holes"
Yes, there are two holes on the drivers side only for the stock mirror. These stock holes have nut-plates on the inside of the doorskin. Only the stock mirror will fit them, putting the "mirror" part just aft (apprx 1 in.) of the forward window channel. The mirror in the other site has the mount reversed 180 degrees (finger pointing aft, instead of forward)Hope this helps. I'll post a pic of a Courier with the RETRAC brand mirrors on it for you to look at.

Thanks, I thought that was what those holes are for. I was hoping to find some mirrors in which I wouldn't have to drill holes in the door, besides the ones already there from the mirrors the truck came with (itty bitty black racing type..yuk).
I'd appreciate any photos, thanks!

extra holes
Mike sent me a pic of the xtra holes. They are extra all right. His original holes (with the nutplates have been filled in) I sold him a mirror for the Courier that uses the stock holes which he will need to open up again and he needs to fill in the holes that he was alluding to as they are good for absolutely nothing at all.

Yep, 'tis true. All this time I thought the holes in the door frames were stock..otherwise we'd have filled them during the body work.
Live and learn, it's all good.
