Decisions, decisions..what color to paint?

Well, I'm on the downside to the bodywork and fairly close
to primer time. Still, I haven't decided on the color for my REPU. I still want to stay fairly true to the 'old school' colors, such as maybe a dark green, but I was even thinking
of a CYM yellow...
The original was that puke yellow/green, and I'll be doing inside the cab as well. I also will be likely doing a single stage paint, since this is my first venture by myself ( a very experienced and knowledgeable neighbor will hold my hand, as well as lend me his prized paint gun!).
I'd love your suggestions!

I can't recommend a colour, I'm torn myself betwen the original buttercup yellow colour (I like yellow) and that light blue that just looks so damn good on that truck.

I would say though that you might want to consider not limiting yourself to a singlestage paint. I've used both single stage and bc/cc paints now and found it to be about the same difficulty wise, although obviously you have a little more work with the two stage. Personally I found it a little easier to deal w/ the blemishes in the bc, whic is more forgiving since you don't need a glassy finish since you're going to clear over it.

I found it a LOT easier to sand a fisheye or drip out of cc and then respray/blend the clear back on than doing the same operation with a single stage.

I'm not saying one is better than the other, I just found that with a little practise the bc/cc jobs were coming out better for me and gave me a little less grief.

I've been practicing on bike parts, friends stuff and little projects, but will be painting my own truck "One Day"(tm). I'll definitely be using a bc/cc. Decals, and then another coat or two of cc. Patience really pays off and I've seen some really good results with this method on morotcycle parts. And once you go thru the trouble to cut and buff the three layers of cc the finish is really rather nice.

Thanks, I'll take that under advisement. My next door neighbor has painted dozens of cars, he likes the single stage
paints. I've seen his work...incredible. That's why I'm kind of following his lead since he's offered to help me. He showed me how to fill dents, etc, then comes by and checks my progress and advises as needed. Great guy, everyone needs a neighbor like this!
Yous said you're going to put on decals..did you find a source?

You're right, its great to have a living breathing library of experience right next door.

I hope part of his process to 'fill dents' includes using a hammer and a dolly. Filler is dandy as a surface smoother: ripples, deep scratches and such but you really don't want to be using it to fill in a large dent. Anything thicker than 1/8" would spell trouble IMO.

No I haven't. Dan pretty much ignored the two or three efforts I've made to solicit his opinion on the subject so I'm going to read that as him wanting nothing to do with it. That disappoints me because I don't know Juan personally and thought Dan might be able to help the community retain this resource.

I suppose I can try to contact Juan directly and see if he might be willing to sell his measurements. Just hope he doesn't think I'm trying to capitilise on his misfortune. If I can get a price I'll get back to the group and see if we can take up a collection.

Yes, he's had me pick up a hammer and dolly set and has told me exactly that..use filler sparingly.
Hope you can get hold of the decal info, I'm in to contribute!

Hey Roto

I was just re-reading this old thread and came across something you said that I missed before..you spray clear over the decals? I would assume that would be a great way to help make sure they stay put, right?
