headlight fuse blows?

Lately the way things have been going the headlight fuse is good for 4-5 hours of headlight use before it goes. Where do I begin debugging this? When I drive with the lights on the fuse gets incredibly hot to touch. My first thought was maybe some corrosion on the fuse connections, figured maybe it was heating up causing the fuse to just melt so I cleaned that up and it didnt help at all.

Corrosion any other place would just increase resistance and dim the lights, not overheat the fuse right? So this has to be some kind of short, or maybe the wrong headlight bulbs? I should replace the lights, one is burned out on the high beam, they are all incadescent bulbs, no halogen beams in there. If I put in Halogen can you get the same light with less wattage?

any other ideas to try?
thanks
Tom

sounds like a short to me. could just be a bad headlight shorting out. see if you can hook u multimeter to the circuit and see what the draw is.

I forgot to post an update. I replaced the lights with new halogen bulbs. I now get alot better lighting and the fuse no longer gets hot. I guess one of the bulbs was shorting out, good call!
