Starter compatibility
My starter died. I've been having starting trouble and suspected low cranking RPM...Has anyone else had the same poblem? Anyway, my '77 has a 1st gen rx-7 5-spd. and I was wondering if a 2nd gen rx-7 starter will work? Thanks.

Pretty much a yes....
as all starters from 74 - 86 are interchangable including manual tranny N/A starters from 87 - 91.
So the answer is probably yes as long as it is not a TII or Auto 87+.

No auto starter will work on a manual tranny, unless I'm smoking something.

Yes, your correct, I meant to say....
All Manual Transmission starters, I was a bit sleepy and working on several things when I responded.
No autos work with M/T's.
Your not smoking anything....

Something interesting.
I changed the starter andf went to turn over the engine and had a real bad grinding noise. It turns out that the drive gear on the replacement starter had 9 teeth while the original starter had only 8. I was able to change out the drive gear assembly onto the new starter. Truck starts much better. Thanks again for the starter Max.
