Flooding Carb

So I installed the high flow fuel pump, regulator, and pressure gauge... set the regulator to only .5 psi, started the pump, and pssssshhhhhhhhh..... fuel all comes out of everywhere on the carb. How do I set the floats up to shut off the fuel? Or, does anyone know of a good FAQ that explains these carbs, and how to set them up & tune them?

wake of the flood...

What kinda carb was this? (I must've missed a prev. thread...) Hi-flow setup makes me guess Holley? Might be irrelevant; same principles apply... I'd guess perhaps your float(s) simply stuck--sometimes it'll hang up on the edge of a poorly fitted gasket, other times it can be remedied with no r&r simply by tapping the side of the floatbowl with something like a sft plastic/hard rubber screwdriver handle.
That would be the simplest scenario...
Double check that your pressure regulator isn't doo-doo before you disassemble your carb also!
Other possibilities may include leaking float(unlikely), or perhaps some piece of tiny debris lodged in the shutoff valve...
Perhaps your float level is way outta whack... in that case, it must be set as per spec (like supplied in rebuild kits), a relatively simple adjust if a pain to get to...
If it's debris removal that's needed, my old favorite is Berryman B-12 Chemtool--the shit's so strong it dissolves asphalt-- just protect yourself well: exposure to solvents both inhaled and absorbed is NOT good years down the line...
Also, eye protection's a good idea-- during carb rebuilds, sometimes spraying out passages results in a fountain of fuel/carb cleaner coming back at one's face... Fun fun...
Anyhow, good luck! Hope I've had something helpful to offer... Let us know! --K.

Nikki Carb

It is the nikki carb, (paul yaw worked his magic on it)... I already took the top of to look at the floats, it is really clean in there, so I doubt the needle valve is sticking (that, and I think I can see it close)

I'll try reading up on how to set the floats... Anyone know a good online resource?

About solvents.. I know all about those... The break cleaner stuff in the red cans has Tetachloretheline (TCE) .. This chemical is VERY bad. By dad is a research scientest for the EPA, and his favorite chem is TCE... He has to get special permets to use the stuff in California... he was amazed that I was able to go down to pepboys and pick up a few cans for two bucks...

Yeah the float must be stuck.
You've probably been there already by the time you've read this though.
I would say get PY on the phone but that seems to be impossible at this exact moment. I too am trying to contact him. For other reasons.

I forgot to ask if he sent you directions on how to tune your carb when it came back. He sent them with spare jet with mine.

Yes, he did, but I'm a EFI person, so I have to read through it and understand exactly what parts are what... and I need to get a better understanding about Carbs...

It all *might* be a moot point in a month or so.. I think I've found a complete long block out of a 90 RX-7.. ECU, Wiring, intake, exhaust... We'll see if I can get that going.

Hey, I got him on the phone today(PY). You better call this week if you don't get it worked out.
If you can come up with a good injected B motor then I'd can that 12a. You'll be happier with the extra power the big motor gives, no doubt.
I am interested in the wiring you have to do to run the ECU in the REPU.

Weeks need to have more days, and more hours in the day... Anouter 2 days off per week wuld be good so I can get everything done I need to...

Actually, I think it partly has to do with the sun setting at 5pm... Can't wait till winter is over, and there are more sunlit hours in the day....
