I just bought a 89 b2200 se-5

As the topic says, i just bought this truck. I am 17, living in Toronto, Canada. I also have a 88 rx-7 N/A. It's nice to see a forum just for trucks, i never thought i would find one :) I want to do mainly performance mods to my truck. It's in pretty good shape, bought it for $800 cdn. It has an oil leak, but runs well, not too much rust. I am thinking of putting a rotary in it particularly the 12A. Is there a guide i can follow? Also was wondering what to do for mounts and is it a really expensive endeavour?

Also, i wanted to install an aftermarket tachometer? Is this a hard task?

what is the redline for these trucks?

I know it gets all it's hp at 4500 rpm and all it's tq at 2500 rpm.

Welcome Carlito,

If you're going to try to swap be prepared for a lot of work. Its doable but its a lot of welding and fabricating.

Also if you're going to do it, just find a 13b and put a holly setup on it. Should be about the same amount of hassle but with a much better end result.

Can't tell you a thing about the stock boinger I'm afraid. I know they're pretty slow. sub-100 HP I believe, but that's a guess based on having driven them in the past.

You should be able to get 160-175HP out of the 13b without going nuts. A definite upgrade but like I said, a lot of fabricating.

Good luck with it.

Start over...

....and you'll thank me, later. Get a REPU, and spend the time, energy, and $$$$ building something that'll be worth what you put in, when you're done.

Yes you'll need hte tranny. Which means you'll have to fab and weld in new trans mounts. Plus you'll need to have a custom drive shaft built. Also you'll need the cooling system which would include the oil cooler. Also you'll need custom exhaust from the header back.

Those are the basics. Expect to spend $4,000-$5,000 if you do most of hte fabrication yourself. Add $1,000-$2,000 if you need someone to do it for you.

It isn't a common conversion, so there is no kit, nor is there really much info on the web. If you're really married to this idea I recommend you call Racingbeat as they've converted a b-series over. If you're nice you might find someone who'll give you some pointers.

I don't to what extent you're willing to take this but this is about as extensive as rebuilding a truck from scratch. If I were doing it, I'd use a 6-port 13bt, which aftermarket ECU. That's going to add $$$ to the tune of a couple thousand more. Add bodywork and paint and you should wind up with a pretty nice product for about $10,000-$12,000.

If I'm off base with any of this then someone here who's done a major swap-out/rebuild or two can correct me, but I'd say I'm definitely within 10% if you want it done anywhere close to right. If you want to just slop something together you can probably get away with $5,000-$6,000.

I think it's cool but the end result isn't worth my time and money. If the b-series had some sort of hot-looking body on it or something I could see going to the trouble. If all you want is a faster b-series I recommend a 4.3L chevy V6 which a holley 4 barrel. Should be able to do that for under $2,000 I would think.

Good luck with it.

Please forgive

the less-than-charitable tone of my previous post... that was me after a night of ZERO sleep, due to a neighbor's dog's ceaseless barking...! Where is 'over here'? We do have REPU owners/board members on several continents...
Best of luck with your project, and welcome to the forum!

Hard to say, they put it in a lot of different things. S10 pickups were the most common thing. Go to your local salvage yard and as the guy behind the counter. He'll have a book that will list every year and every model that the engine came in.

Good luck.
