87 B2200 Ignition Wiring
Sorry for posting about a non-rot, but I'm more than a bit puzzled. My engine DIED today enroute to Tulsa on Route 66, during 180 seconds of pure embarassment I disassembled my steering column, cut a coat hanger and jumpered my ignition long enough to get myself off the road and where I could really take a look at this. Since the ignition trouble is not a new occurance I had already priced the new switch, and it was darn near 1/3 the book value of my truck (on a full tank...). Anyway, I went to Wal-Mart and bought a five dollar keyed switch...it was at that point I realized the greater problem. Deciphering the Haynes wiring diagram (which is AWFUL) I found five really important wires, Bat, Ig1, Ig2, Acc. and of course the starter. I wired IG1 and 2 together to the Ignition pole, and hooked the other stuff up accordingly.
Everything seems to be working great. The problem is that I hooked five wires up and there are still two left over. They are quite skinny (12-14 AWG) and were located in the middle of the switch. Looking at the contacts on teh old switch it seems that they were jumpered together. I tried putting a jumper on them and noticed no difference, engine running nor engine off. So what exactly are these? I thought maybe they were to tell the alternator that the ignition was on, but that seems to be on the ignition circuit and the alt. is coming on just fine. Anyway, any help here would be greatly appreciated, I can't find it on the Haynes diagram, it just shows two poles. Craziness!
