starter and battery ??'s

Will any rotary starter for a RX-7 work on my REPU.Please note it has a RX-7 tranny in it not the ribcase with a top mount starter. The tranny looks exactly like my 83 RX-7's tranny. Also what is the battery of choice for thes trucks?I have a optima in my 7 and absolutly love it.Will an optima work on these trucks? My battery hold down system seems messed up or broken.I have a lever on the front of the battery hold down that looks like the tailgate latches but it doesn't clip to anything but has a ty-wrap spanning over the battery. Also the battery seems like it may be smaller than what should be in there because it has ply wood on each side of it so it fits snugly in the box.

there is a difference i think in starters for auto trannys VS. manual.

I was planning on getting an optima battery for my truck.

Yep, you have an old battery box...

...and like most, it's less than perfect. Still, if it will contain the battery... shimming with plywood, etc., is also par for the course. The original setup included a tray, as well as a rubber piece that went along with the top hinged hold-down... Battery of choice: the biggest baddest one you can afford, that'll fit... Optima sounds perfect.
Starters: differences between auto/manual, as well as early style (twin dizzy 12A) top-mounted, and later low-mount.

a rx7 starter will work with an rx7 tranny

as long as, of course, you use a manual starter with manual tranny and auto with auto. the starter are different depending on tranny....

i have a 79-80 5 speed in my REPU and it uses a rx7 starter. you can buy starters on ebay for $37.00 used to be $27 but I got one for 27 no other bids then the ebay seller added $10 to the starting price :-)

MEGATRONA batteries by Interstate are the best battery I've owned. Nice price for the CCA too.

buy the biggest one that'll fit.

The pickup starter will also work with the early RX7 transmission. It may need a little bit of the casting ground off, but not much. That's if you have an original REPU starter at this date. Not an impossible thing, as they were durable and rebuildable.

Good point, Brad!

I'd forgotten I had a 'Megatron' that survived years of use/punishment/abuse. Good call!
