I have Stock '77 13B. Only mods are electronic ignition and Racing beat air cleaner with K&N 4" filter I use NGK plugs, stock spec.

Racing Beat's website has a pretty good explaination of the different kinds of NGK plugs and there applications. Its in the ignition section

after reading that i knew more about plugs than the employees at one my local auto parts stores. I learned to just ask for the specific plug you want. Don't ask if they have a "colder" or "hotter" plug unless you want to hear "huh"

Plugs

Again what Wankel Dreams says. The Mazda dealer where the truck was purchased in 1977 gave it a complete tuneup-put all NGK parts including the plugs. The rotary tech. there said it was the best bang for the buck.

All the early rotaries responded well to an upgrade to the three prong RX7 plug. It allowed them to run leaded fuel without fouling. Of course,, you can't buy that anymore, so no money can be saved, but I bet some HP gain is accomplished. Every bit helps.
And the NGKs are the ticket, no contest.

NGK or nothing!

My personal opinion/preference is for the four side wire versions over the two or three. Owing to the directional nature of the charge movement/combustion zone/rapid ignition requirements of the rotary, more is better... though you'll find a pretty amazing range of powerband differences between the various types of plugs, if you experiment...(!) I've been running the zero-side-wire BUR series plug for a long time now on my j-spec 4port 13B, and I love 'em! Work great, with excellent durability... they're the ones that look like a solid cylinder, with a cross cut into the end, and the center electrode deep inside...
