Driveshaft center bearing play
I can push on the driveshaft and move the center bearing left to right by at least a 1/4". Is it toast?
Center bearing support brace is bolted tightly.

Is the mount itself solid, or is there a rubber component that's eroded? I'd have to go look to remind myself...
In any event, I'm fairly certain I have a good used one on a driveline that's already pulled -- let me know if you need it.

It's all solid, no rip on the rubber liner or what it's called.
The bearing just moves around a lot in the carrier. Never serviced that driveshaft since I've owned it and theres always been a driveline vibration.
I'm thinking its a good excuse for a new aluminum 1 piece driveshaft. There's a driveshaft shop 25 minutes away.

driveline balance
Hi Brad,
I too have a nagging unbalance at about 62 indicated mph.
Years ago I replaced my center support but somewhere I may have lost the correct phasing of the shaft. I will first mark the driveshaft and remount it a few times for evaluation but will be interested for sure with your outcome. Good to have a driveshaft shop so close.

Hi Tim,
They did a nice job as far as I can tell. I installed it and removed the two shims that the center bearing assembly bolt to and lowered the truck another 1/2" all at the same time so it's hard to tell what did what with vibrations. These two shims are round, 10mm tall and go inbetween the center bearing assembly and the tubular crossmember.
I do have a vibration in the driveline still and I'm investigating it. But it's not as bad as before. I think there is too much backlash. Unfortunately when the driveline vibrates, it shakes everything to high hell and damage ensues.

brad,
did you ever get the solid shaft made? Hows it working?
My center support rubber has cracked and is causing a random vibration. Wondering if I should go one piece

I did not get an aluminum 1 piece driveshaft. I had the stocker rebuilt. After discussing it with the driveline shop we decided rebuilding is the better option. A 2 piece driveshaft dampens vibrations more than a 1 piece. The weight savings of an aluminum one isn't worth the effort. And we couldn't find an aluminum flange for the rear that would work. Replacement u-joints and center bearing support were readily available.
Rebuilding cost less and they ended up using less weights to balance compared with the stock balance job. It works great, I noticed a little less vibration than before.
