Exhaust system

Looked through the old exhaust posts and did not see the answer I was looking for so here goes. I am looking to upgrade the exhaust system on my REPU. I currently have a complete stock exhaust system in almost perfect condition, same for some heat shield rattles. I want the new system for 2 reasons,

1) Save the original system from any further "wear" as I believe you can't buy any part of the system anymore.
2) More performance and better sound. The stock system is nice and quiet, too quiet.

So, here is where I'm at. I am thinking of using the stainless Rotary Works header, runing a dual pipe setup to the axle, then transition to a single. My questions are these,

What I am after is a nice, mellow tone. Don't want loud and raspy at all.
Dual pipe size? Header primaries are 2 1/4"
Pre mufflers? What to use? The RB ones are real pricey. Would I be OK with 2 all stainless glasspacks or can I use a dual inlet/outlet Magnaflow or Flowmaster type muffler?
What size pipe after the merge?
What rear muffler?
Tubing? Is regular aluminized tubing OK, or should I be looking at stainless or thick wall tubing(14Ga?)

Thanks for any insights, Mark

this is what i did ,road race header to dual 2 in stainless pipe and manderals .my pre silencer is a magna flow dual 2 inch in dual 2 inch out the inside x's inside to some some noise cancelation. i used a magna flow dual 2 inch in to single 2 1/2 inch out . the pre silencer i cut open and pulled packing out and put course stainless steel packing (bought a 1 lb roll on mcmastercarr.com 50.00 )if you want somewhat quiet a prima flow muffler is the way to go but you will pay for it .(450.00) good luck

IMO...

You get what you pay for, and if it's not rotary-specific, you'll probably need to mod it like Matt did, or else you may discover that it doesn't last more than a few thousand miles, (like glasspacks, which typically get blown out by the 'pulse'), and/or you end up with a harsh, 'tinny' tone... (which is why thicker-wall tubing is preferred).

Racing Beat stuff is pricey, but excellent.
