tranny removal?

Any tips on tranny removal! Is there a step by step on here some where? I have a stock 4 speed in now, and I just picked up a cosmo 5 speed for my 77 repu :) Have done trannys on datsuns but never my repu. Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks

If you've removed tranny's in other vehicles I don't see you having any problem getting the REPU's out.

Nothing different with removing a rotary's tranny.

For the REPU specifically I unbolt the back of the driveshaft first (where it meets pinion flange), then the center bearing. Tap the driveshaft forward with a deadblow hammer. It can move in about 1" total. Then just pull it out.

A little grease or anti-seize on the pinion flange where it meets the driveshaft makes it immensely easier to unstick it next time.

Each tranny bolt is a different length so mark them on removal.

A spray paint can plastic cap fits nicely over the rear end of the tranny. Tape it on for storage.

I had a 77 5 speed and it had the best gearing for autocrossing. Stick it in 2nd and leave it there.

Hmmm, I thought all 77s had 5 speeds.
Just under the shifter is a plastic cup/seat that don't last forever and blocks 5th gear, might be something to check unless you know it is a 4 speed.
