tranny issues
Im havvy some loud noises coming from my tranny. Its a stock 77 4 speed. Still works great but know it is starting to make a clunking noise and also a weird screech noise. Was only happening in 3rd but now 2nd too. Mainly low rpms then goes away? Im not sure what it is doing clutch feels good, drives good, no slip. Anybody ever had this? Also will a first gen tranny bolt right up.

Are you sure it's the trans.?
I'd suspect the clutch throwout bearing for the screeching; (of course, I'd suspect a U-joint for the clunking, too...)
Of course, transmissions do wear out as well -- try pulling the drain plug on it, and see what comes out. If it's not a bunch of metal, you may still be able to save it. Drain and refill with AmsOil full-synth gear lube, if that's the case.; you may be surprised how far that'll take you!
Early 1st-gen rx-7 5-speed trannies bolt right up -- provided you adapt the crossmember mounts.

tranny
thanks for the info klaus. I havn't had time to drain trans fluid. Also the truck has not been driven since my last post. The weather has been bad here. I noticed today when I started the truck up it seems to idle like it has a v8 with a monster cam. I suspect a motor or tranny mount. I will keep you posted on what I find. thanks again luke.

...that your drivetrain is visibly flopping around/jumping sideways? If so, loose/worn/broken mount(s) may be part of the problem -- but that wouldn't be causing the lurpy idle.

when you drain the oil put it through a strainer also look at the drain bolt usally has a magnet on it and will pick up any metal if u have metal in the strainer the bearings may be going out .
my tranny on my rx7 was makin the same sorta sounds specially when i did burnouts eventually it blew and only 3rd worked lol..
if your motors running rough it could need ignition/carb adjustment or what klaus said check the drive train.
