Air filter disintegration
Lately I've been having some rather sudden idle issues, rough, or wont idle at all. I'd just rebuilt the carb and it had been running superbly, but last night I took the top off and sure enough, crud had made its way into one of the air bleed holes. Cleaned all, ran great today. For about an hour. Same stuff started again. My fuel filter was clean, took top off carb again, noticed piece of black 'something' in float bowl, along with many tiny black specs. It ended up being part of the bottom seal of my purolator filter! Upon inpection, the darn thing is deteriorating, especially the bottom part. This filter is maybe 6 months old with perhaps 600 miles on it.
I have a racing beat open breather like several of you guys, have any of you run into this? I'm going to see if I can find a different type of filter tomorrow, but dayum...!

Hats off to Advance Auto..
I took a 6 month old purolator air filter back to them and showed them how the seal was crumbling, not to complain, but just to see if they'd ever seen such a thing. The guys there were flabbergasted, but actually credited me the price of it towards my purchase of a new K&N filter. It has hard plastic seals which will hopefully hold up.
Pretty nice of Advance to take the filter back, I thought. I've always had better luck with them than autozone.
