Carb rebuild kit

Hey Guys

Can anyone point me to a rebuild kit for our stock carbs? No start after sitting a few days, fires up and runs fine after a squirt of carb cleaner. Accelerator pump I presume, because I can't see any fuel squirting in when I work the linkage.
Thanks

I've seen them on ebay. Should be the same as rx4.

Napa lists a part number for my 75 under "rx7 1/4 ton PU"....yeah, they are clueless....have to match carb number to list of numbers, so you need to get that off of the tag on the carb. Hope it's still there...good luck!

They *are* basically identical...

...to same year rx-4 ones -- which seeem to still be more plentiful, as well. Just beware of hardened/cracked/brittle/broken gaskets, etc.

Thanks, gentlemen..

Since there dosen't seem to be a consistent supplier, guess I'll take a chance at ebay.
Although, it might be worth looking at mazdatrix..

I've got them from NAPA and Carquest. Also Foreign Auto Parts here in Sacramento but the kit wasn't that good and it was over $50, so forget that one.

NAPA huh? Excellent, did you ask them for your particular truck, or did you have a part number?

It will always require a carb number from the vehicle to be sure..bacause the manuf. changed through the years.

carb kit

I just bought a kit at NAPA. $18! They had 56 of them, though it had to come from Virginia.

Eric, did the kit have everything you needed? Mine needs the diaphragm that initally squirts gas in the carb for startup.

I've yet to see a carb kit...

...that *doesn't* include a new accelerator pump plunger. If anything, perhaps it'd be missing the rubber boot...? What Eric found definitely sounds like the right part, at the right price... (more so if one or more of the aged gaskets are unusable, let alone if any parts are missing.)

Might be a better way, but I always prepped the little leather cup with a squirt of WD-40, prior to install...

kit parts

Yes the kit had everything I expected. New gaskets and seals(except the air cleaner gasket), accelerator pump (and yes, put some oil on it, even says so on the "instructions"), needle and seat assy's (which is all I really needed, but separately they cost MORE!), new cotter pins for the linkage, new check balls for the accelerator circuit, etc. It did NOT have new fuel strainers, nor the bellows seal for the accelerator pump shaft. Still, well worth the $18 I paid for it! I think the floats were available also.

Sounds great, was there a part number I should ask for?

carb kit #

I knew you would ask, but I tossed the box. Actually, I do not think there were any model specific parts in the kit. There were plenty of seals and gaskets that I didn't need or use, so I am sure they covered their bases and included many that may not be required in all situations. Just tell the counter man that you want a kit for your year and model!

check napa online

i ordered a kit a couple of months ago online and it looks to be pretty comprehensive. i haven't opened it completely, but just opened the box to inspect the gaskets that it came with. the kit was in another sealed box, so i just eye-balled and they "appeared" pretty complete. it looks like it included more than you need, but should be a good start.

i also ordered the secondary needle and seat, and diaphragm. the diaphrapm looks good, but i havent taken the carb apart to see if any of the other parts were compatible.

these are the numbers on the boxes of the items i bought:
carb kit #2-1211
diaphram #2-4117
needle and seat #2-3678

i used the vehicle description:
rx-7 1/4-ton pickup

keep us posted on how your carb rebuild works out. i would love to have Paul Yaw work on mine, but after emailing him a couple of times, and no response, it appears he isn't rebuilding carbs except for special circumstances.

Hitachi, right...?

This mention of your "rx-7 1/4 ton pickup" vehicle description, and Paul Yaw, (who is known for modifying the Nikki carb.), just makes me want to be 100% sure you're which carb. you're referring to...

Also, availability of the vacuum secondary diaphragm for the Hitachi is 'unheard of', least as far as I was aware... (?)

I was just on the NAPA online site, and, sure enough, the drop down lists the "RX7 1/4 ton pickup" as the apparent one to choose, after setting up your vehicle. RX7 is the only truck listed other than B1600.
All the parts listed above are there as well. Carb compatibility stock numbers are listed for each part, although I didn't look at mine to verify if it was correct.

NAPA is silly!

I've yet to see someone make a truck out of an rx-7... though, no doubt, some tweeker somewhere has boogered one in such a manner. (D'oh!)

(And, as we all know, the REPU can accommodate a 3/4 ton load, if need be).

boogered is an accurate description...

i questioned the validity of the vehicle description, but the parts that arrived seemed to match up pretty well. and when comparing some of the part#s on the website with other parts on some of the lists floating around the internet, they seem to have some items that are usable/applicable. while not oem, sometimes anything is better than a worn out something. obviously, we should be cautious as i'm sure some of us will end up getting some right parts and wrong parts. i.e. the center link from autozone.

i'll have to double check, but i believe my carb is a nikki like klaus said. so if i am misdirecting anyone with a hitachi, sorry!

If it is for the Nikki...

...then the rx-7 designation makes perfect sense.

Next question: did Mazda ever make any "1/4-ton pickup" type vehicle during the 1st-gen rx-7 years, that ran that carb -- maybe for non-US markets?
