Engine cleanup

As most of you know, Charles has a pristine REPU. I had the pleasure of checking it out in person today, and I am really inspired to clean up my engine bay. His is simply beautiful!
My question is, if there's no emissions questions, what can I remove out of the bay to clean it up? I believe I already have an FB alternator, plus no air pump.
For instance, there's a do-hicky next to the carb that has about 4 large black hoses coming from it to just under the passenger side of the carb (hope that's not too much detail, lol). Also, are the hoses needed from the oil fill tube to the air cleaner?

Opinions appreciated and welcome!

Is that the OMP vaccuum manifold you are talking about? If so I would recommend making sure that stays. I dont know, I have a Weber carb so total I have 1 vaccuum line to the brake booster and thats it. Thats the ultimate clean up, but you should be able to eliminate just about everything even if its a stock carb. The ACV isnt needed, so you can put on a block off plate and cap any line going to or from it.

I have no idea what it is, actually. The mazda manual I have is about 90% engine rebuilding, the rest is brakes. The courier manual doesn't show this stuff, so I am clueless as to what does what.
Does the vac manifold you're taling about involve providing oil thru the carb? If so, I'll leave that alone for sure.
Charles' REPU didn't seem to have this stuff, I'd love to clean mine up like his.

Let's try it this way..

If any of you gurus have removed all emissions stuff, I'd really appreciate a picture of your engine bay. I've just removed pretty much everything except fuel and OMP lines.
I've plugged everything else and will (try) fire it up tomorrow and see what happens.
BUT, I want to do this right and not screw up something, so any tips welcome.

I did learn one thing..this beast has a big ol' temp sensor mounted right on top of the engine block!
(I left that in...:) )

Sorry I haven't been around...

...to reply sooner, Mike.

You *do* have a header in place, correct? If not, you most definitely want to install not only the RB header, but the appropriate block-off plate(s) they have available, (or at least used to...).

I'll try to get around to a pic or two for you later today, maybe tomorrow--.

Yep, got a header, RB,I presume. Thanks for the pics, whenever you can get to it.
I was hoping for a reply from Charles..he wasn't feeling well the day I picked up the tranny. He hasn't responed to any emails, either. He's got the 'purtyest' engine bay I've EVER seen. Hope he's ok.
Or..maybe it was something I said?

Sorry Mike

Been busy trying to get the beast back on the road. Haven't had any computer time lately. Now I haven't forgotten you. I do need you mailing address for the flaps. I will get some pics in the next couple of days. Thanks for all the nice things you've said about the truck. I did finally drive it to work today for the first time. Gotta take it easy on the new engine. AC is the only thing I have left to finish, but I got a leak I gotta find first. I do have a great wiring diag that helped while doing the wire tuck. It let me know what all I could cut out, without affecting the mechanics of the truck. Talk to you soon, Charles

Charles

Good to hear from you, I'll check out those pics for sure.
Good wiring diagram? Now that the cat's out of the bag, any chance that could be copied or even put on the forum?

One question:

On the top of our engines, there is a sensor that senses 'something' in our coolant, as it dips into the jacket.
Since the temp sensor is on the thermostat housing, what the heck is this for? I noticed it is not used in Charles' latest pic.,.

New Pics again

Mike and ALL, I`ve posted new pics of the engine and engine bay. You can also see the Courier hood prop in these pics. Lots of time to hide almost all the wires. But I think you`ll agree it looks a lot better.

Just unreal. No way mine will look that good, but it's what I'm shooting for anyhow.

Funny you should say that...

Charles probably had to wipe the drool from me off it after I left. Hopefully he never noticed the drool I left on his equally nice SA..:)
