Weber fine tuning?

For the last few months my REPU has been running better than the rest of the 6 or 7 years I have had it. However it still isnt quite 100% of where I think it can be.

At the moment ignition breaks up at the top of 1st gear, I think its too rich.

however at the top of 2-4 it is perfect!

If I go to a larger air corrector 1st is perfect but I get popping (probably detonation?) at the top of 2-4

Do I just need more powerful ignition? I dont have dlidfis at the moment because of something I was trying to diagnose awhile back, maybe direct ignition would be enough to power through the rich 1st gear? Maybe a coil getting weak? What you guys think?

thanks

how about trying:

keep the bigger air jet and increse fuel pressure by 0.50 psi.

I put in the next larger air corrector, 180 from a 175 and put in a pressure gauge. Found I was only getting 2.5psi so I remove the regulator and now get 3.5. Still low but it runs equit nice now! I think the low pressure causes fuel to drip more and spray less. Probably contributes to the thing being inconsistent. I need to get a decent pump and regulator setup. I think my roommate has a nice Holley regulator, just need to find a good pump now.
