transmission value

I am curious as to what the current value of side-mount rotary bell-housings, and early 70's 4 speed ribcases are.

I have two rx-4 ribcase's that I bought because I needed bell-housings, and I am looking at a third for $200.00

The First bell went into my 74 REPU.
The Second bell is destined for my 85 RXJ (Jeep Cherokee Conversion bolt in-w/o modifications to the bell via adapter)

The third, I was thinking for a NA B-2600 conversion or REPU Restoration.

Is $200.00 high? or is someone needing a 4 speed ribcase gear-box or two, at what prices?

'Value

...supply, and demand. I had a junkyard tell me once, years ago, "..that's an $850 transmission!..."; needless to say, I walked away. Months later, I purchased that same transmission from them ('on sale')for $50.00 --(True story!). Not that that is an everyday option, nowadays...

IMHO, there is very little demand for the 4-speeds; racers might prefer them to the 5 for certain applications, but I know of no one else who wants one.

I'd say a good ballpark for a used but decent functioning transmission is in the $200 range, but it really all depends on precisely which one, just how good the condition is, and who wants it or needs it just how badly, IMHO.

Checking Ebay for those, perhaps the closed-out auctions, might also give a clue?

bellhousing

I've seen a pre-79 bellhousing sell for $250.00 That sounded steep to me but it does bolt right up to various aftermarket gearboxes..

More commonly they went for $150 bellhousing alone the few times I've seen them for sale the last few years.

There are very few new parts available for the old ribcase tranny and the synchros stink too. So if you own one it's lifespan is limited. Due to that people put in rx7 trannies instead.

aftermarket gearboxes.

Please expand on which aftermarket or alternate gearboxes the early 4 speed bell housings are compatible.
TIA,

trannies

Sanez and Jerico come to mind. Very popular in drag racing and GT1/2/3 SCCA road racing.
