The only difference I know of among the pre-1986 Mazda rotary starters is that the automatic transmission and standard transmission pinion gears: I believe that one has 11 teeth and the other 13 teeth. Otherwise, regardles of 12A vs. 13B, 4 vs. 6 port, etc.
When my starter died I got a used one from a rotary vehicle, not sure what year. It bolted in fine but the teeth for the starter gear did not mesh with the ring gear on the flywheel. I was able to install the gear from the dead starter into the used one. It's still working fine after 2 years. Good luck.
