? New REPU ?

O.K. Guys,
I am new to the rotary, but old school when it comes to mini-trucks, and though the purists will scoff, I am introducing (I hope) the RXB, A B2200 crossed with a 12a and rx7 5-speed...(I know, its probably been done before, but ive yet to find it on the web, if anyone knows any different, tell me.) The final product is only weeks away and proves to be a Holy terror on the local Mustang and Camaro owners at the track here in Seattle....

Now I know that its nat a traditional REPU, but I am hoping that all will understand that im not trying to imitate the real rotary pick-up, but to honor its history, and maybe let a few honda owners know that a pick-up "Aint jest fer haulin' souplies...".

Anyway thats the long and short.... Any feedback (good or bad) will be greatly appreciated...(along with any tips on the swap.....Anybody.....Bueller....)

THX! Gearhead

Try a B2000

I actually have seen it before. I have a 1984 B2000 that I have tried to sell. I think its going to become a parts truck to update my 74 REPU. I had the frame professionally grafted with an early REPU frame so that it was a bolt in swap. My only problem was that I live in an area where it has to meet emission standards. I never could get it to pass. Plus with all of the emissions on it the 12A is a dog. The transmission is a 79 RX-7 so that the shifter is in the right place. The Drive shaft is an early courier and shortened. The radiator is custom built. I've got a few pictures if you'd like to see. Its at http://mywebpages.comcast.net/crgj/Page0002.html It will take a good rear end to make it right. Mine has the factory 3.08 and its a slug off the line. Good luck, and let us see some pictures when your done.

First snag.........

Wow you really have alot of work put into that truck. I guess I should feel lucky that I dont have to do all of that grafting.... accept for the engine brace, everything else seems to fall into place. The measurement from the stock trans mount to theend of the tailshaft is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter than the stock trans. The shifter hole will have to be opened up a little. from the trans mount to the front of the bell housing is about 1-1/2 inch shorter, and the RX7 engine is 4 inches shorter than the B2200 engine. Also, the driveshaft from the truck slides right into the rx7 trans, the clutch hoses mate up, and I think I'll have enough room aft of the trans to cross the exhaust over to the drivers side (the fuel tank is on the passenger side..).

However.. one thing I didnt count on is the engine Im using is from an automatic RX7 and there is a ring of some sort in the end of the e-shaft that is keeping me from putting in the pilot bearing...Anyone know what this is? How do I get around this snag? Also I noticed that the donor engine (for the flywheel) had a small seal in with the pilot (it had rotted away), is this seal necessary?

Barring any other surprises, I should have this done by mid to late June (although, I havent factored in Murphy or his damn law....).

Thanks for the info, Gearhead

Oh! By the way, great site... We have a Huge four legged family here also....

Good Luck!

I wish you good luck with the 12a! It will more than likely put out more power than the stock 4banger engine... and should last you a long time once installed and propertly maintained. Look into a Paul Yaw carb for more power. When the 12a does go out in 150,000-250,000 miles, think about replacing it with a 13b fuel injection... :)

Don't get me wrong, 12a's are great, I just can't tune a carb at all... more power to you if you get the thing running correctly!

THX!!!

Thank you for the kind words! I do hope to get a few miles out of it when its done. Have recently sent a Nikki and manifold to Paul... just waiting for it to get back. I think the only other thing that is going to be slowing me up is the engine hanger (I want to make sure I do it right!)

I CANT WAIT TO GET TO THE TRACK!!!!!
