I just cant leave things alone!!!

Well, as the title states. I got my truck about a month ago, drove for 5 days round trip to get her back home. Pulled the motor which was shot, put in a 13b 6port in ther that I had laying around, a good strong engine. Made 170 hp in an rx7 on stock fuel injection. So I was thinking it should be a real good candidate to run the Dellorto carb I got with the truck purchase. I get it all in there, fab up a complete exhaust system from the headers back with 3 inch pipe, install a new fuel system, wire up a 3rd gen alternator, and than I go to put in the carb.....uh oh!!I have no throttle cable linkage for the dellorto. I have no other carb or manifold to run on this engine. What to do what to do?????

So after thinking about putting my Haltech in there and going with a fuelie setup, thinking about making a one off manifold for a 6port and a holley carb. And than my buddy at JHB Performance makes a phone call for me. He calls Mazdatrix and after bugging them for a bit, covinced them to take in my carb for a little loving. SO I sent it off the nest morning. They are going to provide the proper linkage to run in the REPU, and jet it all up for the engine I have. Turns out the overnight shipping didnt work out, instead it went regualer mail. BOOOOOO. So I am dleayed some more. While looking at my pretty little REPU just sitting in the driveway for the last week and a half, I came to a cunclusion. Put a brand new motor in it. Might as well huh?

So here is what I am building right now for it. I got some of the old skool hosuings with the old Mazda logo. They are cermet coated to perfection by JHB Performance, and to go with it I put on a nice big exhaust port and a little sleeve modification. So on to the plates, was going to reuse the ones that came with the truck, but not happening. There is some copper stains from a failed bearing and too much step wear for my standards, around .003". So I looked in my stash of parts and found my best 12a plates(best 3 out of probably 25 engines worth, so they look pretty good). What to do for a port? Well I decided on going big. Real big. I am using the 12a center plate with the big runners, and I ported them out to around the size of a s6 street port. The secondaries are a little bigger again. To top it off, I am adding a bridgeport on both the primaries and secondaries. This baby should flow some good air. They aren't monster bridges, just up to the housing wall and just notched the housing a touch to blend it nicely.

I was going to be frugal and reuse the original rotors and seals which are all pretty good, but after further inspection, will put them aside for a another time. The wedge piece is pretty worn down and there are spring marks on the bottoms. good thing I have a bunch of other rotors and new seals around. Gonna use some s4 na rotors. new 2mm Mazda apex and corner seals, FD corner springs. reuse the side seals and oil rings(new rubbers). I am doing a few oil mods to get some higher oil pressure as to be able to rev to around 10k. The rotor housings were clearanced for higher rpms, the seals will be too.

I plan to have it done and in the truck by this weekend. I will post pics when the ports are fully done. I am about 1/3rd done as of tonight. Going to run a Holley 650 and a RB manifold for the winter, and the Dellorto on a RB manifold in the summer.

update

motor is in and has ran for about an hour. Having some issues with the Holley carb. Might be too small, but I cant get it to idle lower than 2500. Got the Dellorot back, might try it today.

Also added in a Jacobs ignition, and converted to a 2nd gen leading coil with direct fire. Sparks are way bigger now.

thats basically what I did. I stole everything performance wise off of my 7 as it is in need of some body love. Took it out for some driving time tonight, damn she wants to pull hard, cant wait till its fully broken in.
