How did you wire up your MSD 6al in direct fire?

For anyone who has installed a MSD 6al in direct fire configuration, where did you wire up the switched +12v power from MSD, and what did you do with the wire that is yellow with black stripe, it goes to leading - coil terminal on stock ignition. Do I still need it hooked up?

I have my switched +12v power hooked up to fuse box 2nd from left. And yellow/black wire is not hooked up.

Prob I'm having is when cranking starter, tach doesn't move and I don't think there's spark when cranking. When I let go of key, then engine catches and fires.

Hey Brad, I think that the yellow and black is for the tach. Or is it the yellow and green? I had my cluster out yesterday and saw a yellow and ? to the tach. I can't remember. Sorry, I probably did'nt help you out much.

My 77 tach wire is yellow with a white stripe. The yellow and black is the 12v thats always on, so its needed when cranking. It used to go through a ballast but I switched over to electronic so now it goes directly to the leading coil with a jumper over to the trailing. In case you have smog equipment, the blue and black wire was the 12v to trailing so ecu could cut it during certain smog related conditions. But my ecu doesn't work right so it got disconnected. Some people want leading and trailing on all the time anyway. Hope this helps.

Does yellow/black wire go to + or - terminal on coil?

Goes to the + side of the leading coil. If you are bypassing the ecu control wire for the trailing coil, use a jumper between both + terminals. The "-" side goes to the respective points on the dizzy. There used to be a photo of a wiring diagram in the photo gallery for further reference.

got it to work!

Me and the multimeter found out my yellow/black was getting power during cranking, and only during cranking. So I wired that and a switched +12v to the msd and now it fires during crank and run.

My ignition relay, by the coils, is missing! But don't need it now.
