J109 ignitors

I blieve that I lost an ignitor today. The tach stopped working and the pickup would die at idle. It started easily and seemed to run alright. So I am guessing that I lost the trailing J109 ignitor. I am using an electronic distributor and the leading plugs are running off of twin coils with an MSD unit. I need to know what year(s) use the J109 ignitors. I guessed '81 and '85 but Schucks listed the same ignition module ($145). If I can't find a reasonably price new one, I'll look for used. Any idea of a good wrecking yard? (I'm SE of Seattle) Thanks.

I have a new one for the 81-85 Rx-7 for $75 (Wells). It is larger than the original, but works excellent.

I've read your article. Thanks. Now I'll need to look for three J109s since both of mine are dead. I already have my igniters located on a aluminum plate and the three coils.

You could try GM HEI ignitors. They can be purchased cheaply at Autozone.

I used to live in Kent, WA.
Ther are a bunch of auto wrecking yard in Kent. I think one of them is called Green River auto Wrecking. They are pick a part. I would reccomend trying to buy the entire distributer. Most of the yars I've been to up there sell them cheap and don't bother to notice the 2 ignitors attached. God luck, Sparky
