automatic truck

hey guys i know this is a stretch but i bought a 1975 ford courier with an 1800 motor. this is a very nice truck but it is an auto and it will not get above 45 mph. the tranny is shifting 3 times but still tops out. what i want to know is if when they change the head gasket could you get the timing so far off to do this. B. do you think the rearend is got a differnt gear in it. the factory rearend is 4.57 and manual gearing is 4.11. thanks for the help!!!!

Usually, autos are geared much higher, not lower. If that is indeed a 457:1 rearend, it would not go very fast at all. Way too low!
And your in the wrong section of this site. I expect you will be moved soon.
