White REPU being parted on ebay...

Just wanted to let everyone know.... I emailed the guy parting out the white '74 REPU on ebay about the towing mirrors, which I really want and need for my '76. It looks like he is going to put them up for auction on me, and no disrespect, but if he does that, I will be going after them...no matter who here bids against me. Sorry. I really want them. I'd appreciate y'all leting them go if he does auction them off, to avoid a bidding war, but that may be wishful thinking :)

I hear ya Brother, ................

I too inquired about the tail lights, door and window cranks, headlight bezels, turn signals, radio surround, tailgate latches, marker lights, and wheel center caps.

He said he had so much interest he was going to put them up for auction. The only thing I really wanted was the center caps. I don't even know if he has any. He never did confirm it. I will go for those to a point , but every thing else, he can keep if he isn't willing to cut a deal and let em go without auction.

I guess I am getting a bit tired of opportunism. Don't ask people what they want if your not willing to sell it.

He asked, then changed his mind.

I too would be interested in the towing mirrors, but would settle for detail pictures of them, especially the mounts for my lack of bid on them.

hey guys did you know that all of those towing mirrors are actually US installed..... they also were not from the same manufacturer so be sure that you get a set not just one. I have 3 sets now but only of those 3 is usable.

Hello Dave,
I am looking for a set of mirrors mfg RETRAC Co (the ones with the reflective tape chevrons on the back).
They don't have a "MAZDA" on them anywhere but that's what the dealer was putting on when I got my truck. I could make a set but have no drawings for the mounts, everything else can be scaled from photos.

I hear ya Dave but...

I just LOVE any of the "towing" style mirrors for our trucks. I know all (or at least most) of the trucks came over here without any mirrors at all. I know they aren't "factory" or anything, but that's OK with me. I want to acquire a set for the '76 and then maybe find a spare set for my '74, just in case anything happens to the ones that are on it down the road.

It would have been mandatory to have a drivers side mirror I believe.

...and, as for me...

...I'd still like to find a proper, original, non-towing-type small mirror... the kind that most likely was on the driver's side only...

small drivers mirror

The trucks did come with the spot mirror from the factory, however it was probably installed when the dealership did the PDI (pre-delivery inspection) and not on the truck when it was shipped from japan. Items like hubcaps, floormats and wheel locks are usually inside the vehicle but not installed until the PDI (dealer prep?) is performed. Mazda had a promo giving away free tow mirrors on the truck in an attempt to enhace lagging sales brought on by the gas crunch when the truck first came out and I imagine a lot of the spot mirrors were just tossed in the trash while still brand new. Orville pointed out the nutclip on the inside of the door skin for the mirror when I inquired about the location of the original mirror. I`ll have some reproduction gaskets ready soon if you do find a mirror.

Hello Klaus,
The same spot mirror they put on the REPU also came on the early Ford Couriers and the early Courier bumper center section is the same as a REPU, the were a lot of Couriers so some should be left.

actually that is a similar mirror on the couriers, nearly identical but the ones i have managed to find do not have the part number on the underside of them like the orig ones, also the repu mirror is the same one that goes on the r100

I wonder if we could find the source of a lot of these Mazda parts and see if any are left, what it would take for a small production run, or what other vehicles they were used on.
Anyone have knowledge about Mazda vendors from the 70's?

Thanks for the info, Orville, Dave,

...and Craig! (Heh, heh... you said, "nutclip", heh heh, heh...)
How much do you guys think we'd reasonably have to spend for an intact example of one of these 'spot' mirrors?

spot mirror

I`ve seen them go for $15-20 used and $50+ for a NOS on ebay. The R100 mirrors use the same gasket but the mirrors are different. The support arm for the R100 is on the leading edge of the base and on the REPU its on the trailing end of the base. I had a handful of NOS mirrors last year from an obsolete ford parts supplier and they all had the old style mazda "m" on the mirror housing but no part numbers.

That's funny...

...Mazda 'M' on parts from obsolete Ford house... too bad you 'had' them, past tense!

on your spot mirrors you need to look at the part numbers it is the same mirror repu 74-76 and r100 right out of the parts manuals, on the original mirrors both repu and r100 when you pull them off the part number is on the bottom on the ones that i have seen on couriers do not have the part number and are a little different, if you look at the part numbers for the b1600-1800 series it does not always show the same part number as the repu, the 77 had a completly different spot mirror, as to new ones i had a couple of brand new ones from mazda up to about 2 years ago they were available i found out from an r100 buddy of mine and bought a pair (now wish that i had done more so i have enough)
