Are they for performance or just a stock replacement.. I'm wanting a more performance shock and maybe something better for a lowered truck

Only a guess, they were a low pressure gas, stock replacement.

I think Brad mentioned Blistens shocks were pretty good.

The KYB GR-2 low end model is a cheap but poor choice. They don't last long and sag. This is the typical stock replacement shock. They are silver in color.

Monroe Matic are similar to the GR-2 and are a royal blue in color.

Monroe Sensa-Trac are a position sensative adjustable valve shock. Soft for the first 2 inches of travel but stiffen up after that to help reduce lean. I really like them on my other cars but they just don't last long on the REPU. Not made for a 512 lb front spring. Rebound goes to crap, they compess but don't or VERY slowly decompress.

KYB Gas-A-Just are a stiffer shock and more performance oriented and more likely to be able to handle a 512lb REPU front spring. White in color. Damn Good shock.

Tokico Blues are similar to the Gas-A-Just and are blue in color.

I don't know of a Tokico Illumina fitting REPU but it the Illumina's can't handle more than 375lb spring so it's moot.

Bilstein HD (Heavy-Duty) are excellent and are performance oriented. They can handle a REPU front spring.

If you buy a front shock for a first generation Camaro (67-69) you can make it fit the front of a REPU by enlarging the center hole of the lower control arm a few mm, and ovaling the shock's lower mounts inward a few mm. This greatly opens up your shock choices. I think it's a shorter shock too which reduces bottoming.

Brad,

Do you have a stock number or part number on those Blistein's and name of store where you purchased them from? What about the rear shocks...what are you using for them?

Bilstein Shock info here:
http://mazdarepu.com/board/viewthread.php3?FID=8&TID=2024

I use Monroe air shocks in the back. Couldn't find a good high performance shock due to the length and the way it mounts. Old mustang was close.

I put 4 KYB A shocks on about 10 or 12 years ago, and tried replacing them with the Monroe matic 6 years later, but they was just too soft so put the KYBs back on. They have lasted a long long time, about 100 k miles so far. But now I either need new springs or shock replacements. I have some Tokicos ready to go when I lower my truck. I have a 77 with ac. Having that compressor makes a difference what shock you use.

Yes. I used coilovers. I sell them $300 cash pick up or $335 paypal shipped. If you want to buy in person @ SevenStock let me know so I can order the springs.

Hello,

Are you saying you'd like to purchase the threaded spring perches I sell and use them with your 77 springs? If so that won't work since the diameter top of the stock springs is larger and won't seat into the threaded spring perch.

Unless I misunderstood in which case please clarify so we can discuss.

Thanks,
Brad
