Well, sort of....

The "Freeway Hummer" was actually reference to a specific truck a dealer in California did up to unload it. IIRC, it was one of their last REPUs that still had not sold going on 1978. It had a California Stepside bed, exhaust stacks, and a true '70s paint scheme. "Freeway Hummer" was painted across the tailgate- again- IIRC. I have the article here somewhere. I am moving my "reference library" from the basement to a spare bedroom in the house right now, and there's alot of stuff to move. I will be going through all the old magazine articles in the upcoming months, scanning and documenting everything I can, so when I come across it, I'll try to remember to post it here.

Neal.

Finally.....

Well, I found one of the snippets on the "Freeway Hummer". Check my gallery for the scan.

Now, I think I have to correct myself from my previous post last year. This isn't the same FH truck I recall, leading me to now think that Freeway Mazda may have done up several trucks to help sales, rather than just the one that wasn't moving at the end of the season. I still have to find the blurb on that one (that had the smoke stacks and stepside bed). Hopefully, it won't take me another whole year to do so.

Told you I had alot of stuff to go through....

Neal.

Found the article on the Freeway Mazda, 'Freeway Hummer' Complete with flame job, roll bar, driving lights and a heck of a tailgate. It's not the elusive stepside.
