Curb Weights for Mazda Vehicles

Just putting this up so we can compare our trucks to other Mazda vehicles. I would of thought that the Rx-5 would weigh more that the Rx-4 so please verify if these numbers are accurate (if you have time).

thanks

Perhaps it would be helpful...

...to distinguish between coupes, sedans, and wagons, where applicable...?

Split out the 7 sevens some more

Put the year on the 7s. I think what your showing for 7s is the FD or 3rd gen weights. The SA (79-80) and FB (81-85) all weighed about 2400 lbs or so from 1979 thru 1985.

Good info though. I didn't realize the REPU was a light as that! No wonder it went so good with a 13B in it.

Don't forget..

... that the weights also vary between automatic or manual trans vehicles. I realize that the difference is minimal, but nonetheless, if you are trying to be really accurate. Also- there are even smaller variances such as the GSL-SE weighing more than the GS or GSLs of the same years (84-5). And likewise, the GTU of 1988-1990 will weigh different than the GTUs, and a base model FC is different than a GXL,, even with the same transmissions. It's petty, but the variances are of course due to the wheels, manual vs. power windows, rear wipers, diffs, etc.

Didn't know exactly how picky you wanted to get with finding out the weights.

LOL!!...

...you're killin' me, Klaus! But to answer your question, I am not sure yet, especially since I will have to factor in the weight of the R134A refrigerant and oil, not to mention the extra weight of the compressor and bracket!! Oh, dear goodness, then there's the belt! HAHAhahaha.

Oh, did I mention the topper that's on her? Just got that repainted, so I have to add up that extra weight, too. ;P

I'm just so grateful for the super extra heavy stock exhaust that's on my truck!!! My poor engine is probably choked to death, maybe putting out 50hp at the flywheel now, and I freakin' LOVE IT!!!!

Neal.

Well...

it is a *truck*, after all... (Lol!) Weight savings (and free-flowing exhaust) only matter if you want to be quicker...

If rx5 is the cosmo, I am pretty sure that you have the wrong number for that one. My recollection of that model when I had one, was that it was the first model with 14" wheels, the highest geared rear end ratio to date, the highest first gear ratio, and the heaviest body weight at that time, over 3000 lb. That made starting off the line a real dog....but it cruised well.

I realize that these aren't curb weights, but GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating), but thought it might help. Checked just two of the cars here, pulled these numbers right off the stamped ID tag:

1974 RX-4 Wagon, 4-speed Manual trans- 3820lbs.

1976 Cosmo (RX-5), Auto trans- 3578lbs.

I'll try and check the RX-3 Wagons and the RX-7s tomorrow (it's raining here right now).

Neal.

I weighed the REPU on the scales at the landscape supply a couple years ago and it was 3400 lbs.

Ouch, that can't be. Even the brochure on this site says its 2770lbs. I don't know where I got 2865lbs from.

I remember that my 74 repu weighed less than the official weight of the early 80s rx7, but i don't remember what it actually weighed. I just know that with the setup I had it ate 7s in a drag. (and 280Zs, and so on...)
