Off to a start.......

My lonely Repu has been sitting neglected since I bought it 4+ months ago. Really I should have left it where it was when I saw the shape it was it. Real rusty.

Anyway I have picked up a few things for the build. Turbo II rear IRS and front brakes. S5 Turbo II intake manifolds and turbo. The turbo manifold is on its way.

This past weekend I picked up a 76 B1600 cab. It popped up at my local pull-a-part so I just had to get it. The trans tunnel and radiator opening are not the same shape as the repu so I will have to use this cab for patch panels for my original cab.

I should start work on it in a few weeks.

Here are some picks of the cab

The Repu

is a 1974. The 1600 cab is a 1976. I was just measuring some stuff between them and trying to decide what to do. I can either transplant the repu trans tunnel and front core support over or use the 1600 cab for about 30 patch pannels the repu needs.

Good Luck

Great to see you here Billy, I'm just north of you here in TN. I will probably have some spare parts from my rust-o-ration project myself. Let me know if I can be of assistance. Good luck and keep us up to date. You can post pics on the MSN website.

Electrolysis

Billy, If you have pieces that can be removed, check out electrolysis for rust removal. It also removes paint and is an easy way to restore old parts. I have used electrolysis on all the removable parts off of the frame on the REPU I am restoring. Just lately I have gotten a kiddy pool and done doors and fenders. On another note take note of the area of the engine compartment where the wiper motor bolts. Notice how different it is from the B1600 to the REPU. Also the brake and clutch master cyl's are mounted differently.

Can you go into more detail on electrolysis? I've already pulled my really rusty valence and am about to pull the fenders. Sounds better than sandblasting..love the kiddie pool idea!

Websites

Visit any of these websites for instructions and ideas on how to remove rust. I use a pressure washer after taking the part out and it removes all the loose paint and rust, then if needed I put the part back in for about 24 hrs. I have 2 55 gallon drums and the kiddie pool set up for rust removal. I'm looking for something bigger than the kiddie pool so that I can completly submerge a fender. Good luck, Charles

I will check out electrolysis.

I have noticed the 1600 does not have a brake booster like the repu as well as the mounting holes. I had hoped to use the 1600 cab (it is such good shape) rather than than patch the repu cab. There is actually less parts that would not need to be fixed than not.

Oh well...Sure it is not anything you guys have done before.

down to frame...

I managed to spend a few hours working on the pu. I have the cab and bed off. The fuel tank and battery box are removed as well. It just sits there on dry rotted tires with the pinto motor still in it.

Sunday plans are to have the frame bare ready for sand blasting. I have a friend who owns a powder coat shop. We are going to blast the frame with his new setup. Maybe powder coat the frame?????
