76 Cosmo joins the family.......

I just scored a one owner, 81K, 5 speed Cosmo for $200.

Interior is a bit worn, but the body is in fabulous shape. Motor is blown, but I have a spare or two. I think I will swap out motors and run it like she is. No time for a Cosmo resto this year. I'm already booked.

Lucky you. I've been wanting a cosmo to add to my stable of rx7s and repu.

I actually had a dream

...about a Cosmo the other night (!) ...I only just remembered it at all. Highly unusual for me... especially since I've never really found them too appealing.

Yea, I know they don't win beauty contests, but....

They do kind of grow on you in a awkward sort of way.

That, and the fact that they are a relative rarity, makes them a bit more attractive to us rotary fans.

I guess I put it in that situation where I wasn't looking for it, it found me, but since I ran across it, I couldn't pass it up and now I have to work with it.

I mean, C'mon which one of us wouldn't take a decent Cosmo chassis deal on a moments notice and deal with all the "what do I do with it's" later?

Absolutely!

...especially had we your resources at our disposal...

Speaking of which, if you happened to get around to that REPU motor-mount crossmember chop, let me know what you need for it, and I'll try to get it in the works.

Yea, funny thing about that crossmember....

I cut that puppy off for you right before I scrapped the carcass of one of the victims of last Decembers slaughter. I then had it laying on the floor when Eric (of happy meal fame) called and needed the same exact thing to get his truck on the road. So I agreed to sell him that one and I'd cut you another from the second truck to be knocked off.

On the second truck, I needed blades for my sawsall to cut it off. I loaded up the truck and thought I'd get blades on the way to the scrap yard and cut it off right before they dragged it off. I got the blades, but I was about an inch from getting the thing hacked off when my batteries went dead. So, in the end, I lost the second one to the yard, and I still have yours/Erics crossmember in the shop because I have been busy moving and I have been neglecting my customers.

Not to worry Klaus, I have another truck to be scrapped within a few months and I will make sure I get the crossmember off for you before I haul it away this time. If you need it real soon, I could probably find time to sneak out to my storage yard and dismember it.

So, Eric, if your reading this, I apologize for dragging my feet on you, if you still want it, I still have it and will get it soon as I need to be out of my palatial estate by March 19th anyway and even though they get my diesel lawn mower in the deal, they won't get any rotary parts.

No hurry, no worry!

...but your moving can't be happening at a very opportune time as regards your projects... everything turning out alright for you, I hope?

I don't care if it takes another 6 months, as long as it's cheap and clean!

Heck perhaps I should reconsider whether or not I could take a mostly-stripped frame/cab/bed off your hands...
They'd have to be in the form of a titled, fairly intact 'roller', though... just enough to get it on/off a trailer or tow dolly... for a 'unique' deal... :b

Timing could be everything; let me know!

Yea, Moving sucks. and it is at a rather inopportune time, but it is all for the best.

I am moving about 10 miles north, to a house half the size with much more useable land in which to build a shop+ of proper dimesnions. In effect, it is much more cost-effective and with much better conditions in which I can live comfortably.

My present house is 5300 square feet and after two of my kids moved out, it is a bit too large. I have rooms I don't see for months.

As for the cross member, I would not call them clean, but cheap they should be.

As for a roller. I would be willing to cut you a deal on a full frame with bed. I have one I use as a parts storage bunker that in a few months won't have a useful purpose.

It could even come with a crossmember. I don't know about a diff though, I have several requests for them, and I they have been paying the resto bills as of late. So, it may be short a rear end, though too soon to tell.

That is the reason it will probably be heading to the yard. Without a rear end, it is fundamentally worthless to most people.

I will at least have you a crossmember, and I have at least two other trucks that will be be going somewhere, I could pencil you in as first option on one of them sometime in the spring or summer.

I'd be more into...

...a 'roller' frame with possibly re-usable cab, (and bed) --even minus the rearend-- than perhaps without the cab but with a rearend...
That's not to say it wouldn't be waaaay more convenient if it rolled on both ends, let alone had reusable bits under the back, 'but'... One of your 'not-quite good enough' to build cabs might have less 'issues' than mine.
Just a thought.

By all means, please do pencil me in for at least a check-in about the specific option(s), when you know what the schedule needs to be.

By 'clean' I meant not so much dirt-less, as an intact and precisely-chopped section... then again, with you doing the chopping, I'm sure I needn't worry!

Hope your new place is everything you desire, and more.

Thanks, K.

I'm down to one hulk.....

that is a frame with out a cab. I do have a cab on it, but it is destined for one of my current drivers when I get some time.

The others I have are all good rebuild candidates. I will probably be selling a 75 in the spring when after I get resettled and transfer them all to the new place.

It is intact with cab, framed, relatively good bed (tailgate removed and sheet welded in?) but needs a bit of drivers floorpan work. I had to consume the fenders though and that is the main reason it is still with me. Truck just plain isn't worth much to most without a set of fenders. I will let you know when it is time to let her go.

I plan on keeping a set of 74's, a 75 auto, and of course the 77.

I have two more 77's and a 76 that I will leave decisions for to another day. I have them over an hours drive south and haven't really seen them in over a year. I need to check them out and see what I really want to do with them.

Perhaps...

...I should mention, '74 preferred', for what it's worth... since mine all are...

As we know, most 75's are just restamped 74 models...

with little other major structureal differences. But, I have yet to figure out precisely when the drivers floor panel got that funky wire channel on some of the 75's. I have one with it and one without it. I'm sure it was a bogus mistake as it filled with water and rusted away because it was the lowest point.

I have only ever seen it on one truck, but I must admit, I have only viewed my own collection.

You can always replace the cab's tag and you have whatever year you want other than 77 and even then, no DOT person would ever notice.

But, if 74's are what you want, then 74's are what we will try to get for you. Right now, I have only half of a 74 available, and if you will take an rust-through-AC model cab, I can make you a whole unit.

But alas, I am on hold until I finish my earlier shipping committments and get resettled.

(Minor detail)...

...and not SO crucial; I know, I know... I'm probably being silly. Still no hurry, and whatever works, as always!

Sure would be nice to get a non-rust cab, though... might even be worth *something*, even somewhat picked clean...
