Crash

The Red Truck got smushed today. I was stopped at a stop sign at the end of my street not 100 yards from my house and a guy in a 4 wheel drive Toyota cuts the corner and runs into me. Pics are posted on the MSN site.

I'm ok but the truck is going to need a hood, grill, headlight bezel, valance, and some fender work. Guy has ins, but if I know insurance companys they will want to total it. But I'll fight its gotta be fixed or they can replace it.

Right now I'm just trying to get over being pissed.

Thats too bad man,

The important thing is you are ok.The truck can be replaced(sorta),but you can't.I often wonder how an insurance company can replace a truck/car such as this because there isn't any way to get replacement parts for them.I hope they agree to give you what it is worth in the real world, not the blue book value, because these trucks are only going up in value in my book.Again I am sorry to hear about anything hppening to a fellow REPU owner, and I hope you have it back to normal soon.Good luck.

big bummer

but the damage isn't too bad. bet frame is just fine. that is a real nice, clean truck. saddens me to see it squished but could have been worse. try and milk everything you can out of the insurance company.

hate to say it, but it's not uncommon for insurance to low ball until you write them a letter threatening legal action. especially on custom cars.

Harsh!!!

My condolences... glad you're in one piece, though!

Here's the thing: Only the insured has a contract with their insurance Co.; he with his, you with yours. Far as I know, you can sue him, but you won't succeed in suing his Co. ...he has to do that, in turn, should they fail to perform on their contract.

Put EVERYTHING in writing, record all calls, send all mail Certified with sig. required ! If he/they stall, send a polite yet firm official 'Demand Letter' (a formality). Use the words 'time is of the essence', and specify a required timeframe to receive a reply. His insurance may even tell him not to respond to you (illegal in some states).

Shop around for the three TOP estimates from the BEST body/fender/frame/restoration shops in your state; get complete estimates in writing.

Insist on genuine Mazda parts.

Data-mine Ebaymotors completed auctions to document the actual cost of certain parts, when available. Defer to the dealer parts dept. last known retail book rate whenever possible. **Hunter might be your man to document 'full price' on current values for these parts!

Those are my best ideas. Good luck!

Estimate

Got an estimate, $2438.00. The only good news is that I talked to Rob at Pineapple and he informed me that he had a say in getting the REPU in the NADA book. High retail is 2450.00 so if the INS company wants to total it, thats about what it will cost to fix it. On a brighter note, It is still driveable just have to get in and out from the pass. side. Once I talk to the INS company I'll start by fixing it so I can get in and out the drivers door. Thanks for all the condolences and advice. C
